Protect an expiring link with a password
Password protection adds an extra gate before LinkTimer redirects to the destination. It can be combined with expiration and confirmed-open limits for temporary sharing that needs more control than a public redirect.
What this option gives you
Server-side verification
The submitted password is checked against a one-way password hash rather than stored as readable text.
Editable ownership
Eligible owners can replace or remove the password when managing the link.

Share a temporary draft or preview with a client using a separate passphrase.

Gate a temporary redirect distributed to a small team or project group.

Limit access to a temporary event or meeting page to recipients who know the password.

How it works
Create the temporary rule
Choose the expiration and open limits first.
Add a strong password
Use at least eight characters and send it through a separate communication channel when possible.
Share and manage
Recipients enter the password before Continue; eligible owners can later update the gate.
Important limitation
A password-protected redirect is not end-to-end encryption and does not encrypt the destination content. Use the destination provider's own access controls for confidential files or regulated information.

Does LinkTimer store the password as plain text?
No. Passwords are processed into a one-way hash for verification.
Can I remove the password later?
Eligible owners can remove or replace it from link management.
Does the password hide the destination domain?
No. LinkTimer remains transparent about the destination hostname.
Is password protection available to guests?
No. It is available to eligible Pro and Business access; new subscriptions are currently paused during beta.
